Our Story

The name CARE (Community, Advocacy, and Resources for Education) Anacostia, came during a night meeting from the devoted volunteers of Friends of Ketcham Elementary School (FoKES). We hoped to find ways to widen the scope by serving more schools and narrowing the focus to make a strong impact in our community. The acronym “CARE” felt true to what we hope to do for the youth in Anacostia: be a community/village, advocate for their needs, provide resources for growth, and increase educational opportunities for classroom success. By elevating our stakeholders: neighbors, guardians, educators, and leaders, we are forming a strong and CARE(ing) village around our youth.

This village then activates the principles of CARE, which allows all stakeholders to strategically and intentionally work together to provide safe schools, promote student joy, and enhance a cohesive learning experience from school to school, which will elevate student outcomes.

THe Impact

The first two years as Friends of Ketcham Elementary School (FoKES).

The Formula

CARE’s formula for impact stands on history, data, and input from our community. We are the change we desire to seek, and our youth need to see how much we CARE.
