Our Programs
What We Do:
At CARE Anacostia, we believe racial justice and community empowerment comes from an equitable public education system. Our programs are a step towards holistic, supportive schools that give Anacostia agency.
We work to embolden families, support school operations, and give educators a space to teach to their interests, not just a test. They enable Anacostia public education to thrive.
Educator Advancement Teams
Our Educator Advancement Teams (E.A.T.) give educators and school staff the resources they need to nurture and support the next generation of learners.
We provide educators with liberatory professional development opportunities, a trip to the Black Literacy Matters Conference, and a $1,000 stipend. With the E.A.T. network and resources, educators create Expedition Day capstone projects.
These projects create student experiences that extend beyond the classroom and into the passions of each educator. These projects prepare students and educators to make a difference in their communities.
Power Our Schools
In the spirit of DC’s Consolidated Parent Group of the late 1940s and early 1950s, we know that radical change comes from within the community. Power Our Schools is our community and civic engagement program. We collaborate with other District organizations to resist oppression, organize, and celebrate.
Power Our Schools builds community engagement and transforms community members into powerful advocates for the future of public education in Anacostia.
Hopes and Dreams
When families lead, communities and students thrive. Hopes and Dreams equips families with the resources and guidance to make their own change. At family meetings, we build a strong, connected neighborhood to protect and grow our schools.
These meetings develop engagement and collective strength. We facilitate mutual aid, create safe spaces for joy and resistance, and build power together.
In these meetings, we help families radically re-imagine a future where all students have freedom and ample opportunity.
