CARE Anacostia’s last edition highlighted budget cuts in early childhood. It is important to also recognize another financial cliff on the horizon, as DC government benefits are at risk of being reduced or eliminated.
In response, CARE Anacostia is launching the Family Power Project, a rapid response to our family-facing Hopes and Dreams program, in each school to equip families with the knowledge and a clear roadmap to prepare for upcoming high-stakes elections and navigate this period of uncertainty.
We will continue to keep our community informed as this project unfolds. We ask that you consider how YOU can support our families and school communities to move forward, advocate, and grow, even in the face of forces that threaten the progress of our children.

Policy Point
Washington Informer: Juvenile Curfew Delay (scroll towards the bottom)
Washington, DC has been debating the extension of a youth curfew aimed at limiting large gatherings of teens, often called “teen takeovers.” The policy allows police to create curfew zones where youth under 18 cannot gather in groups after certain hours.
Mayor Muriel Bowser has strongly supported extending the curfew as a public safety tool, while members of the DC Council and community advocates have pushed back, questioning its effectiveness and raising concerns about increased policing of young people.
For Black and Brown youth, the impact is significant. These policies often increase surveillance and interactions with law enforcement in communities already over-policed, while doing little to address the root causes such as lack of safe spaces, resources, and youth programming. At the same time, curfews can limit opportunities for social connection and community building, reinforcing a system where young people are managed rather than supported.
What are your thoughts? CARE Anacostia wants perspective from our community.
